Flora and Wildlife
The Garden Lodge is set within Smithmoor Common, a very special place. Being unploughed for centuries, and being carefully grazed, it has retained a plant community unusal in these days of intensive agriculture
Quoting from a 2003 survey:
"The flora is unique within Worcestershire. The presencce of several nationally scarce or threatened species, and scarce plant communities gives it some national significance............it is a very rich site"

So for the lover of the countryside and the natural world, Smithmoor Common is something special. The rich and diverse plant life leads to a wonderful mix of wildlife. I regularly see not just foxes and rabbits, but also hares, green woodpeckers, greater and lesser spotted woodpeckers: goldfinches and long tailed tits travel in flocks over winter and many more.
And the insect life can be quite beautiful
